Vida Community Outreach Nurse Earns Sexual Risk Avoidance Certification

Vida Community Outreach Nurse Trina Batley, RN, recently earned her Sexual Risk Avoidance Certification through Ascend. Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) is an educational approach based on the public health model of primary prevention to empower youth to avoid all the risks of sexual activity.

This complements and further enhances Vida Community Outreach and the organization’s commitment to empowering and educating the next generation about making healthy, life-affirming choices.

Vida provides free sexual health education and presentations to area schools, youth groups and clubs, and other community groups throughout the year. Presentations include topics such as healthy relationships, STDs, and avoidance of risky behaviors. Learning how to have a healthy relationship with setting boundaries and goal setting empowers our youth to have a plan for each season of their lives. Learning not to engage in risky behaviors, like teen sex, will positively impact their physical and emotional health. Teaching our youth, sexually active or not, equips and empowers them to make healthy choices.

In addition to information for young adults and students, Vida also provides free resources and information to parents, educators, and other adults.

Sexual Risk Avoidance Certification distinguishes educators like Trina, by demonstrating their additional professional knowledge and commitment to enhancing their teaching expertise in this area.
